| | Which Sling | | Which Sling is Right for Me? Choosing which sling you are going to use for your child is a highly personal decision. Hopefully the information on this page will help you make the right choice for your circumstances. If you have any further questions you can contact us and we will do our best to help you make the right decision. There are 4 main different types of slings; wraps, ring slings, pouches and Asian style carriers. Safety
At Rumplebums we take safety seriously. Slings are a safe and secure way to carry your babies but as with all baby equipment, it is important that you follow instructions and safety precautions. For example, when doing a back carry for the first time it is advisable to practise on a soft surface.
Wraps
There are stretchy and woven wraps. Stretchy wraps are easier to use but have a shorter lifespan as they carry a lower weight limit. Stretchy wraps are especially good for newborns. At Rumplebums we stock ByKay stretchy wraps and Kari-mes. Woven wraps can be used from birth through to toddlerhood. They come in different sizes and can be tied in many different ways. We stock Storchenwiege and Hoppediz.
Ring Slings
Ring slings are fully adjustable and can be used from birth through to toddlerhood. They are easy to adjust and most people find it easy to learn how to use them. Ring slings are great for those babies that want up and down a lot. We stock Natya ring slings.
Pouches
A Pouch is just that, a pouch of fabric in which your baby lies or sits. The size of pouch you need is dependent on the size of the adult who will use it. To get the right size measure diagonally across from your shoulder to your hip. We stock Coorie pouches.
Asian Style Carriers
There are many different Asian style carriers. We stock Podeigis and Mei tais. Podeigi s are Korean inspired carriers which have one long strap and a blanket. Podeigis can be used from birth but are usually seen as more of a toddler sling. Mei tais are based on Chinese carriers. They have shoulder and waist straps and a panel which is often very decorative. They can be used from birth through to toddlerhood. We stock Chrysalis and Ellaroo Podeigis, and Chrysalis and Kozy Mei tais.
Soft Structured Carriers
Soft structured carriers have buckles so have less of a learning curve than other types of sling. They can be used from about three months through to toddlerhood. The waist and shoulder straps attach to the body of the carrier with buckles. We stock Sleepy Nicos.
